Good Morning Sue
I noted your update on PBWorks this morning. Thank you for that.
I am also trying to figure out blogspot as I havn't really had a lot to do with it before, and this post is as much a 'does it work, can I make it work' as a real post.
More later, including some reflections.
Bob
Hey Bob
ReplyDeleteThis worked easily enough. I wrote you a lovely comment and then lost it as I didn't select the profile in the drop down box. Other than that little trip up it was easy to use.
Gotta get ready for the Deans meeting will catch you soon. Thanks for your help and support of others.
Cheers
Sue
Hi Sue.
ReplyDeleteWith regard to wanting the student to succeed more than the student wants to, that happens with a percentage of our students every year. I think because they come not really knowing what they are going to do at the end of the course. They have no real long term goals. Some of them don't even have short term goals! I am certainly guilty of pushing them in these circumstances. The end result is for the students to pass after all and if they are a little 'lack lustre' because of a lack of goals then they need that extra encouragement to push on. If they don't then they may fail, hampering future advancement but if they do push on and pass then when they finally figure out what they want to do they will be that much further down the road to achieving it. It is also a self esteem issue. Allowing them to fail by not pushing them will mean 'just another failure' to many of them. Having said all of that, I can do things better. In fact, I have been working hard this year on 'getting alongside' the students more. Encouraging them and nurturing them instead of being grumpy with them when they are constantly late, don't do homework etc etc. I'm sure its no suprise to you to find out that this has made the classroom far more relaxed. As for results from this approach, I guess time will tell!
